Hi everyone,
I've got my first and only Bladnoch review today. Poor Bladnoch has been bought and sold so many times now. It's been a Diageo workhorse, a small craft distillery and now a premium brand in fancy bottles.
Thankfully, this is one of the middle ones. One of the releases when Raymond Armstrong was the owner. Sample from finedrams.
Bladnoch 12 Sheep Label 55%
Colour: Gold
Body: Medium
Nose: Old school. Floral and sweet. Sherry, violets and roses, pollen, blossom, dry hay, liquorice, gummy bears. Oak creeping out after a minute, old splintered wood. Transporter-y, almost a place rather than flavour, very summery.
Water: More oak, seems older than it is. Dry wood. After a bit it gets a little hot.
Taste: Soft arrival, sweet, light and delicate. Floral malt, going sweeter with gummy bears and barley sugar, the oak powers through, then recedes with more floral- Rose petals and lavender.
Water: Softer, the oak is more soft and the sweetness more mellow. A little coffee bitterness. After a minute- More tannins (a little heat) and splintered dry oak. Liquorice and chilli chocolate.
Finish: Medium/Long length. Sweet, delicate barley sugar and flower petals linger. Water: A little sherry with oak.
Fantastic. I'd guess this was 20+ year old Glen Grant. However, water brings out too much of the oak I think.
