Hibiki 12 Review

Hi everyone,

Thought I’d contribute to the r/world whisky community reviews today with a quick review of Hibiki 12. A Japanese blended whisky made by Suntory and now discontinued where I am, like all Japanese whisky with an age statement.

It’s crazy how in just a few years this has shot up in price then disappeared, along with everything else that says ‘Japanese whisky’ on the bottle.

Anyway, enough complaining.

Hibiki 12 43%

Colour: E150a

Body: Light

Nose: Tonnes of vanilla and liquorice root and bark. Liquorice sweets, honey, vanilla pods, vanilla ice cream, camphor, scented candle wax, candle smoke, lovely perfume note, sweet hard candy, pencil lead, herbal note- Flowers, pollen, lavender, nettle and rose water.

Taste: Very light and sweet, flowers, pollen, vanilla, honey, toffee popcorn, cream, sweet grain, hard candy, candle wax, candle smoke, match smoke, bit of spice, malt, sharp green apple and pear.

Finish: Medium length. Perfumed malt and a wisp of smoke.

Good stuff, quite complex for a blended whisky. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s really worth it for the prices it gets here in the UK now. It’s a shame because I quite liked the waxy camphor notes.
