Hi everyone,
Another quick review today, this time from Bowmore.
This is a young NAS Bowmore for travel retail but it's currently being discontinued. Replaced by a 10, 15 and 18 in slightly different packing to the usual bunch.
Seriously Bowmore, what's the point?
Eh, travel retail is dead anyway....
What's the gold reef thing about? Who knows? Think it's something to do with Bourbon barrels and the sea.
I have tried this before but totally forgot about it as it was only very briefly at the distillery itself.
Bowmore Gold Reef 40%
Colour: E150a
Body: Medium
Nose: Smoke and vanilla. Floral and ashy. Yellow apple, a little oak. Not very complex nose.
Taste: Soft, oily and creamy, nice mouthfeel surprisingly. Vanilla and ashy fruit, yellow apple, Physalis (those little yellow dessert berries), then soft peat.
Finish: Medium length. Nice combo of peat and yellow fruit, a little harsh oak.
This was much nicer than I was expecting to be fair. Black Rock is rubbish, but the taste and finish of this one really saves it.
70/100
Thanks for reading!
