Robbie's Dram & Sainsbury's Speyside Reviews

Hi everyone,

Today I’ve got very random mystery malts to review. The first is a single malt from Robbie’s Whisky Merchants in Scotland, and the other is Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Speyside.

Both samples were generously provided by Tom. Thanks mate!

Since I have no idea which distillery either is from, I have zero waffle to give you and we’ll just get to the whiskies!

Robbie's Dram 40%

Colour: Light Gold

Body: Light

Nose: Soft and malty, barley, golden raisins, lots of pear, green apple.

Taste: Thin but soft and malty again, honey, light pear, green apple, golden raisin, some peppery spice.

Finish: Short/Medium length. Golden raisin really comes through.

From Robbie's whisky merchants. Could be Aberlour perhaps. The golden raisin notes are nice on this otherwise quite boring whisky.

Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Speyside 40%

Colour: E150a

Body: Light/Medium

Nose: Bit of an off note- Sour, slightly feinty, rubber, green apple, a bit of yellow apple.

Taste: Thin, some feinty notes- Rubber, yellow apple, some oak.

Finish: Short length. A bit of yellow apple.

The off and feinty notes really let this one down, along with the complete lack of complexity, and made it look quite rubbish compared to the Robbie’s Dram.
