Tormore 2002 Côte-Rôtie & 2004 G&M Reviews [When in Rome]

Hi everyone,

There’s nothing about Tormore that I haven’t said previously. It’s an under the radar distillery, using purifiers and pumping out whisky for the Chivas blends.
I’ve tasted two recently, so might as well put them up together. The first is a wine finished Tormore from Gordon & MacPhail. The red wine cask they used was Côte-Rôtie, which literally means the ‘roasted slope’ because the hill gets a lot of sun. It’s in the Northern Rhône, using a lot of the Syrah grape, which often translates into full, meaty wines.
The other is just a cask strength, 1st fill Bourbon matured Tormore, also from G&M and should have a similar style to the 16 I’ve reviewed before.

Tormore 2002 Côte-Rôtie Finish GM 45%
Colour: Pinkish Amber
Body: Medium
Nose: Enticing red fruit, pomegranate, sweet orange, orange wine gums, raspberry and black pepper.
Taste: Spicy, raspberry and black pepper, orange wine gums, some oak.
Finish: Long length. Soft, fruity, more orange.
Lacking balance and complexity although the flavours are nice.
71/100

Tormore 2004 Gordon & MacPhail 61.4%
Colour: Gold
Body: Medium/Full
Nose: Really fresh and fruity, some pastry, apple pie, green apple, vanilla, cream soda, cola.
Water: More chalky.
Taste: Intense, the you feel the alcohol, pastry, apple studel, pepper then calms down, softer spice, cola, some vanilla, a floral note, pollen.
Water: More spicy.
Finish: Short/Medium length. Pastry and a little floral. Longer with water but less balanced.
Similar style to Jura or Tullibardine. Bottled at almost 12 years old from 1st fill bourbon barrels.
68/100

Thanks for reading!
