The Gauldrons Campbeltown Blended Malt Review

Hi everyone,

Yeah, I’m pretty late with this one although it is still available in places.
Looking at the spooky label you can guess that this was released around Halloween. And is the last of the regional malts blended malts series that Douglas Laing have been doing for a while now. That means that all the whisky in here is from Campbeltown distilleries, of which there are only two this is likely to be a blend of.
Springbank and Glen Scotia. Looking at the colour it looks like a decent amount of it has been matured in Sherry casks, which is always a plus for both.

The Gauldrons Douglas Laing 46.2%
Colour: Light Gold
Body: Medium
Nose: Classically Campbeltown of course. Austere, sooty, dark tobacco, chocolate, some oak, some lifting orange citrus, lemon too and vanilla.
Taste: Light arrival then a really good development with dark sooty, tobacco, orange peel, dark chocolate, lemon, chalky, a little spicy though with ginger and chilli.
Finish: Medium length. Very chocolatey with tobacco, dark. Some spices too.
Campbeltown blended malt. A really nice one, very Campbeltown, but unbalanced in places.
77/100

Thanks for reading!
